Bishop of Swansea and Brecon cleans shoes to mark Maundy Thursday
THE Bishop of Swansea and Brecon has been cleaning the shoes of shoppers in Swansea Market.
The Right Reverend John Davies was due to be joined by Swansea Deputy Lord Mayor June Stanton in the fundraising shoe shine to mark Maundy Thursday and collect money for good causes.
Bishop John offered the service, and invited those who took up the offer to make a donation to his Lent Appeal which is to be split between Welsh Dragon Burns Club, The Kaleidoscope Project and Zane, a Zimbabwe National Charity.
Bishop John said: "On Maundy Thursday the Christian Church remembers how Jesus washed his disciples' feet — which was a dirty, stinking job usually done by the lowest servant.
"By this act Jesus showed that he came to transform our lives, not by force, but by simple, loving service.
"I hope that through this modern day act of service, people may feel moved to go to their local church on Easter Sunday and hear more about how their lives can be transformed by God's generous and free love."
