“My favourite player of all time is Alan Curtis. If you were to cut him in half you would find Swansea City running right through him like a stick of rock. He is Swansea. A true Jack.”

Swansea councillor Robert Francis-Davies.

“Ivor Allchurch – Swansea boy born and bred.”

Ian Griffiths, South Wales Police press officer.

“Robbie James past, Michu present!”

Tim Prosser founder of Swansea-based publisher Iponymous Publishing Ltd.

“When I was playing for Swansea there were so many good players it is impossible to pick one.

You had players of the calibre of Ivor Allchurch, Cliff Jones, Terry Medwin and Mel Charles, I felt sorry for those who couldn’t get a game.”

Former Swan Mel Nurse.

“Ivor Allchurch. I heard that he found what he thought was a lump of fat in a meal once which he put in a hanky and back in his suit and forgot about until he sent it to the dry cleaners and the police called around wanting to know why there was a tip of a finger in his suit! It turned out the chef had chopped his finger off!”

Ron Cant, Carmarthenshire Council Press Officer

“I’m much more of a rugby man than football myself but my favourite Swans player would have to be Roberto Martinez after having taken his portrait picture a few years ago.”

Terry Morris professional photographer

“That’s easy, got to be my grandfather Ben Beynon. As well as playing for Swansea Town he was a Welsh international rugby union fly-half who played club rugby for Swansea and later played professional rugby league for Oldham RLFC. His most notable game for Swansea was against First Division side Blackburn Rovers in an FA Cup draw. Swansea won a shock 1-0 victory — my grandfather scoring the goal. His final game for Swansea was in 1922 and during his career he managed to score a hat-trick in a match at Vetch Field in September 1920 against Norwich.”

Chris Bryant, retired grandfather of four, Swansea.

“Leon Britton – he’s played in every division and proved himself to be a great player.

Whenever the Swans play well the chances are Leon has had a good game. Let’s hope he gets to show his class in Europe next season.”

Alex Brown, Post assistant news editor

“Robbie James, he played with a real passion – you could tell wearing the white shirt meant so much to him.

He was a talented, competitive midfielder and a key part of the club’s rise through the divisions in the late 1970s.”

Jason Evans, post police and crime reporter.
