SWANSEA Council is backing a campaign to help elderly people stay healthy.

From beating flu to staying active the Keep Well this Winter campaign has a host of advice for older people and those who care for them.

Ensuring senior citizens get their free flu jab, stocking up the food cupboard with healthy items with a long shelf life and taking part in the free swimming sessions provided for people over the age of 65 at council leisure centres are among the tips on offer.

There is more advice and help available for people looking to stay safe, independent and happy at Swansea Council's information centre based at Norton Lodge. Sheila Thomas, a community connector with the council's adult services team manages the centre.

She said: "We are here to help people find out more about a range of services such as how to order freshly-frozen ready meals which provide a nutritionally balanced diet without the need for shopping or chopping.

"We have sessions with groups such as Citizens' Advice Bureau or Age Cymru Swansea Bay, and if anyone wants advice about an issue relating to getting older and staying independent, then they can just drop in, and perhaps make friends in the process."

“The best way for an OAP to keep well, is for them to keep well in the years before they became an OAP. You know what they say fit at 40, fit for life. Mind you saying that i have got a bad knee and i'm around 50 lol.”
