Beyonce helps cut corridor congestion at Carmarthenshire school
CHART-TOPPING singer Beyonce and 80s band Musical Youth have helped combat school corridor congestion at a Carmarthenshire comprehensive.
Beyonce's song Irreplaceable, which contains the lyric "To the left, to the left" and Musical Youth's
Pass The Dutchie (on the left hand side) are being piped into the hallways of Llanelli's Bryngwyn Comprehensive School to remind pupils to keep to the left.
Head teacher Paul Jones said: “The concept was an innovative and imaginative idea from pupils coming out of a school council meeting.
“The purpose was to improve the smooth and effective transition, as pupils and staff travel around school between busy lesson changeovers.”
Musical Youth's hit song topped the charts for three weeks in the 80s and was inspired by the tracks Pass The Kouchie and Gimme The Music.
Mr Jones added: “It is quite surprising, not only do the pupils enjoy it, but they responded and it does work.”
Lewis, a Year 11 student said: “Our keep left initiative involves bilingual posters and novel footprints on the walkways in the dining
“We hope to extend this to other parts of the school later in the year.”
The head teacher said that because of the pupils’ engagement with the song, Bryngwyn hoped to get its pupils composing their own music.
This, it is hoped, will start up later this year as a curriculum project to develop an in-school radio station.
