Ben Davies hails win over West Brom a 'big step' for Swansea City
BEN Davies hailed Swansea City's 2-0 win over West Brom as a "big step" for Michael Laudrup's men as they registered their first Premier League victory of the season.
Davies struck a superb opening goal at The Hawthorns yesterday, while Pablo Hernandez added a late second to seal a deserved triumph for the visitors.
The result gave Swansea their first Premier League points of the campaign, having slipped to the foot of the table following defeats to Manchester United and Tottenham.
But they hauled themselves off bottom place in fine fashion yesterday, and Davies reckons the win will kick-start Swansea's season.
"This was a big step for us in the league," he said.
"It was a massive win for us. It was a game we knew was going to be a possible win when we looked at the fixtures after the two tough games we had at the start."
Victory was particularly timely for Swansea, as they now sign off from the Premier League for a fortnight as Davies and others jet off for international duty.
Liverpool will be the visitors at the Liberty Stadium when Swansea return to action on Monday, September 16, and Davies is relieved the Swans have got off the mark for the season at the third time of asking.
"It was very important to get the three points," he added.
"You don't go out every week playing teams of the quality of Manchester United and Tottenham. We go into those games thinking if we pick something up, then great.
"Of course, we're disappointed if we lose those games but we have to appreciate who we're up against."
