Bee and flower campaign backed by Swansea West MP Geraint Davies
THE fight to stop the decline of the bee population has won the backing of Swansea MP Geraint Davies.
The MP for Swansea West has joined forces with the Co-op and South and West Wildlife Trust to get people across Swansea Bay to scatter seeds to help boost their numbers.
Bees are an essential part of our ecosystem.
He said: "Bees pollinate a third of the food we eat and their population is falling dramatically.
"I support moves to cut insecticide use to save our bees, but in the meantime we should scatter wildflower seeds in our gardens and on community land to boost our bee population."
He added: "Pollinators like honeybees, bumblebees, butterflies and moths need a helping hand, and by simply dispensing a free packet of seeds in your garden you can brighten up the environment with flowers and help our bees at the same time.
"Bees and butterflies are essential for our local food production and an abundance of wild flowers would give our environment a real lift."
