The Beast of Baglan
The Beast of Baglan
On the TV when I got home today
I heard the man read the news and say
"It has been proved with no shadow of doubt, the beast from the forest of Baglan's about.
From the farming minister we've had a quote
Be watchful, he's already eaten a goat
It was seen by 10 people from the Neath coach
so therefore be careful and do not approach.
Please take precautions and do be aware
That we're trying our utmost to find its lair".
My mum turned the set off and then said we should
Not worry too much though we lived near the wood,
But finally said that I must make a habit
To bring in the dog, and lock up the rabbit.
With my heart in my mouth I did all my chores
Expecting each moment a snapping of jaws.
A crunching of bones, a clashing of teeth,
From the monster that comes from the valley of Neath
At last safe inside and I'm having my tea
Telling my dad what I'd seen on TV
He said he had a different thought
And hoped that the creature wouldn't get caught,
As he'd managed to live there year after year,
And only now and again appear.
We shouldn't think this was just sour grapes
But he hoped the Beast from Baglan escapes
For if they catch him the first thing they'll do
Is make him live out his life in a zoo.
Now I wish those people had not made a fuss and didn't report what they saw from the bus.
As I'm trying to sleep alone in the dark,
I imagine a local safari park,
And already for Saturday I've started plotting.
We could go for a drive and do some game spotting.
