WACKY fundraiser Captain Beany has been involved in a lot of crazy capers to raise money for good causes over the years.

The caped crusader has bathed in baked beans for 100 hours and walked on a treadmill for 12 hours while holding a plate of beans on toast.

However, Captain Beany has revealed he really will be going the extra mile for his next charitable venture.

"I will be taking part in Sports Relief Mile and am preparing to 'run' in the Swansea mile, albeit with a saucy flavour," Captain Beany said enigmatically.

He explained that, rather than pound the streets in the conventional way, he would instead cover the distance on his hands and knees while pushing along a tin of Sainsbury's Baked Beans with his nose.

"I shall be adorned with suitable kneepads to cushion the blow, and wearing suitable padded orange gloves en route," Captain Beany told the Post.

He said he hadn't yet completed a full mile in his training for the event, but hopes luck will be on his side for the day itself.

"If it is downhill I will cheat a bit and let it roll away," laughed Captain Beany.

"After all, you cannot stop a tin of beans," he said.

The fundraising champ, who converted his two-bedroom flat into a baked bean museum of excellence in 2003, has admitted he is preparing to draw a few puzzled looks on the day.

"It is going to look stupid," he said. "I did it in the (Sainsbury's) store and thought 'what am I doing'?, chuckled Captain Beany.

The Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile will be held in Singleton Park on Sunday, March 21.

It will give fundraisers the chance to pick between courses of one, three or six miles, each run starting from the Lacrosse Field.

A number of celebrities have also backed the cause in previous years, with David Walliams completing a swim across the English Channel in 2006 and TV presenter Adrian Chiles and football legend Alan Shearer cycling 335 miles from Newcastle to London in 2008.

Last autumn, Eddie Izzard completed one of the most incredible challenges in Sport Relief's history by running 43 marathons in only 51 days.

A Sports Relief web page has been set up for anyone who would like to sponsor local fundraiser Captain Beany with his own challenge.
