THE credit crunch has proved to be a money spinner for one Port Talbot prankster after he signed a deal for a major chocolate company to share his bean-wave for a topical treat.

Caped crusader Captain Beany submitted an application back in July to trademark the name Credit Crunch for his own brand of chocolate bar.

At the time, he revealed dreams of becoming a Welsh Willy Wonka and said he hoped his branded chocolate bar would be given out free in banks to raise a few smiles.

But just last week it emerged that top London store Selfridges was selling its own chocolate offering of the same name for £3.99.

Its sweet treat is produced by chocolate manufacturer The Chocolate Society, who also chose the topical name for its chocolates.

After the David and Goliath style battle was reported in the Evening Post, Captain Beany has since confirmed a deal has been struck with The Chocolate Society over the name.

"We came to an amicable agreement," the wacky wonder revealed.

"I did not so much conquer Goliath as appease him," he added.

Speaking of his motivation for pursuing his piece of the pie, Captain Beany said: "It is not so much the aspect of the money, it is that us superheroes believe in fair play and justice."

He also pointed out that he considered himself a bean done good after the licensing deal was struck with the London-based chocolate company.

"I am only a normal, ordinary guy living in a sprawling council estate," he said.

Revealing what he planned to spend his share of the profits on, Captain Beany said: "I will probably pay my outstanding overdraft with the bank and my council tax. Even super heroes are feeling the credit crunch and are in the same boat."

A spokesman for The Chocolate Society confirmed the deal and said its chocolate product would now feature both Captain Beany's trademark and its own trademark name, Hokey Pokey.

"We are selling Credit Crunch Hokey Pokey under licence from Captain Beany," he added.

It seems, however, that this deal is just the start of a bigger bid to go global with the Captain Beany brand.

Revealing he's a bean that means business, he added: "If this takes off in the UK, I hope to take it to America."
