Ballroom in a different spot
LAST week you showed a lovely picture of the Tower Ballroom, but it is not true that the Phoenix Centre stands on the same site.
You printed a picture of Powys Avenue School last week as well — "the Cowsheds", as it was known to everyone — and this stood where the Phoenix Centre is now.
Tower Ballroom was the opposite side of Townhill Road from the playing field, which is behind today's Phoenix Centre. The Tower was next to the reservoir. Still, very nice to see both pictures.
