Bad situation made worse
HAVING worked in the Middle East, I know of the abject poverty and uncompromising attitude of the Israelis which drives the Hamas freedom fighters.
Building on disputed territory, confiscating thousands of acres of land, is only part of the problem because the likened Government, are guilty of far more indiscretions. To make Jerusalem its capital, when it enjoyed 'open city' status, contravened International Law. Indeed, because Palestine is asking for limited recognition at the UN, the Israelis have retaliated by threatening to build settlements in East Jerusalem — an area heavily populated by the displaced Palestinians.
There are millions of moderate, peace-loving Jews in Israel, who are frustrated by the religious fanatics arriving in their country from the US and Russia, who are solidly backing an extreme right wing Government in The Knesset. While they are in power any peace accord is extremely unlikely!
Letters of protest to the Israeli Embassy would not go amiss.
