Assembly's major role
PETER Jones (Have your say January 7) is quite mistaken when he claims no important developments have come to Swansea since the creation of the Assembly in 1999.
He seems to have overlooked the Assembly's role in supporting the Waterfront Museum, the new Swansea bus station and Swansea University's planned innovation centre, to name but three.
Cardiff Airport, I would remind him, does not only serve Cardiff, and the Welsh Government was correct to step in and halt its decline. Or would he prefer it that people in Swansea have to travel to Bristol in order to fly anywhere?
Of course no-one can deny that as Wales's capital city Cardiff attracts more investment than other parts of Wales but exactly the same thing happens in England with regards to London.

Regarding his calls for a third referendum on devolution for Wales I would remind him that in 2011 the people of Wales gave an overwhelming thumbs-up to devolution when they voted by two to one to give the Assembly direct law making powers — indeed in our own region support was higher than any other region of Wales.
