Assembly joins in Armistice tributes
THE National Assembly for Wales is joining the Royal British Legion in marking Armistice Day at the Senedd.
Today the traditional two minutes' silence was to be led by Presiding Officer Rosemary Butler AM, Deputy Presiding Officer David Melding AM, and Wales Manager of the Royal British Legion, Phil Jones.
Proceedings were to begin at 10.55am with the reading of the Exhortation in the Neuadd with two minutes' silence at 11am.
The Senedd will fall silent again at 11am on Sunday, to mark the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

"We must never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country," said Mrs Butler. "We should remember those who are still risking their lives today in theatres of conflict such as Afghanistan.
"Armistice Day acts as a reminder to us all about these sacrifices and that is why the National Assembly for Wales works in partnership with the Royal British Legion."

“If we did away with religion people would find other things to go to war over. Mankind is a savage beast. Until we do away with greed, hunger and more importantly money things will never change. Money is more of a problem than religion for me.
All that said, all members of our armed forces past and present have my deepest respect and thanks. I'm not religious but if a prayer would save just one life I'd say one every day.
I hope our troops (men and women) are all safe today and every day until they come home. I shall be wearing my red poppy proudly knowing I can do so safely because good men and women put themselves in harms way to give me that privilidge.”

“The first world war which Armistice Day was introduced to commemorate was of course to be the war to end all wars. Sadly almost 100 years later the human race is still fighting each other, and until we put an end to all religion we always will be. I for one will be wearing my white poppy.”
