Ashley Williams not looking to leave Swansea City despite Liverpool and Arsenal interest

ASHLEY Williams's agent has insisted the Wales captain is not looking to leave Swansea City amid continuing links with Liverpool and Arsenal.

Williams is being touted as a summer target for two of the Premier League's heavyweight clubs after yet another fine season at Swansea.

Reports on Merseyside claim Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, who made no secret of his admiration for Williams during his time in charge at the Liberty, has made the 28-year- old his No. 1 target to replace the retiring Jamie Carragher.

And there are also strong suggestions that Arsene Wenger sees Williams as someone who could bolster Arsenal's wobbly rearguard next season.

Assistant manager Morten Wieghorst reckons Swansea will have to get used to newspaper stories suggesting Williams could be a target for other sides.

But the former Stockport player's representative, Jamie Moralee, has stressed that he is in no rush to leave SA1.

"What I can say is that my player has got no desire to leave Swansea City Football Club," said Moralee, managing director of New Era Global Sports Management.

"There have been stories linking Ash with clubs for the past few years, but his situation now is no different from his situation over the past few years.

"Ash has always remained a Swansea City player. He is happy there, his family are there with him and he is playing better than ever because Swansea have given him a platform.

"He has been captain for much of this season and he thrives on that responsibility.

"If he is drawing the attention of the big boys then that is a good thing, because it shows he is developing and Swansea are developing.

"But he has never knocked on the chairman's door and said he wants to leave and he has never handed in a transfer request."

A fee of around £8 million has been mentioned for Williams, though Swansea would be entitled to ask for more given his consistency over the past few years.

The centre-back is under contract in SA1 until 2015 having signed a new contract in the autumn.

"If a club comes in and puts the money on the table, I am sure Ash and the Swansea chairman will have a conversation," Moralee added.

"But we are all pretty chilled and comfortable with the situation.

"There's nothing other than newspaper speculation at the moment and, as you know, that comes when people are playing well.

"But that's all it is. If one of the big four, five or six decide to target Ash and put the money down, then there will be a conversation. But it's quite early to even be suggesting this kind of talk because there are still quite a few games to be played before the end of the season."

Swansea boss Michael Laudrup conceded last week that Williams is bound to be linked with other clubs — but stressed that he is keen to have him on board come the start of next season.

And No. 2 Wieghorst believes Swansea should not be rattled by the latest reports.

"I think we just have to acknowledge that when a team are doing well and the players are doing well, these things will come," he said. "The bigger clubs will always take an interest in certain individuals.

"And if a big club actually comes in for a player, it's obviously something you have to consider.

"But I cannot say anything more than that. Talking generally, these things are a compliment to the club and the players involved."

Williams is one of seven senior Swansea players who is away on international duty this week.

The rest of Laudrup's squad are in training, but will have a long weekend off as their next fixture, against Spurs, is ten days away.
