Ashley Williams expected Rodgers to succeed at Liverpool
IT’S no surprise to Swansea City captain Ashley Williams that Brendan Rodgers has guided Liverpool to their best start to a season for years.
Williams was a regular feature of Rodgers’s Championship and Premier League Swansea City sides.
And he said he knew Rodgers would do well at Liverpool.
“When a manager goes into a big club like Liverpool and doesn’t get instant results, then you’re always going to get that criticism,” Williams is reported as saying.
“That’s what happened even though they didn’t have the worst of seasons. It was up and down for their standards at that club.
“But I always thought Brendan would figure it out. I’m sure they will be successful because I feel they are a better team now than last year.
“I knew he would succeed at Liverpool because of his work ethic, I haven’t seen a manager work as hard as him.
“He’s the first one in and the last one out, he knows all his players and the opposition inside out, and I never expected him to fail there.
He said he learnt a lot from Rodgers.
“He taught me how to be a better professional. He had been at Chelsea [on Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff] and worked with some of the best players in the Premier League.
“He had the experience to tell you how to go about your job day to day and in training and then how to look after yourself.
“It has stood me in good stead to become a captain for club and country and how to lead a set of men.”
