The incidents were said to have involved a woman allegedly posing as a carer, who called at the homes of three women, two aged 92 and the third, 89.

The suspect was arrested in the Margam area today.

Earlier this week, detectives appealed for information following reports of two incidents.

They were said to have happened in Grove Lane, Neath, and Victoria Road in Port Talbot.

In two cases it was believed nothing was stolen.

However, one of the 92-year-old women, from Grove Lane, told police money had been stolen from her purse.

Officers confirmed they were linking the three cases on the basis that each involved a female caller purporting to be a carer.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "Detectives investigating a number of distraction burglaries across the Neath Port Talbot area have arrested a woman.

"The 22-year-old was arrested in the Margam area of Port Talbot, at about 2pm and was taken into custody.

"The media and members of the public are thanked for their assistance."
