Armed Forces air show set for return to city
THE skies will come alive over Swansea once again this summer — with the return of the armed forces air show.
The event, now branded the Wales National Airshow, is returning to coincide with 40th anniversary celebrations of Swansea receiving city status.

The Red Arrows in action
Aircraft including the world-famous Red Arrows will fly above the city on the same weekend the 1st Queen's Dragoon Guards march through the city for a formal freedom ceremony at the Guildhall.
The event has been organised by the Army, Navy, Royal Air Force and Swansea Council.
Jason McFadzean, chief technician and general manager of the
Armed Forces Careers Office on Castle Street, said: "When this was first held two years ago, it was a spectacular success. People have been asking ever since when we were going to bring it back."

“the nimbys from sketty and brynmill normally complain about noisy events in singleton park so wonder if these nimbys will try and stop this air show.”

“Jules, I work nights too, perhaps I should arrange to have the postman sacked for ringing the bell, have the ducks shot for early morning quacks, have the trees cut down on a windy day to stop rustling noises. Stop moaning, this is a once a year thing.”

“I cant wait for the second appearence of the RAF's finest . The buzz of the weekend will be brilliant and the increase in tourism will be highly beneficial to this growing city. The raw of the typhoons engines will surround the skies and rumble the ground. The appearence of new aircraft will make this upcoming show even more exitable than the last with the Royal navy's black cat display team and much much more. They are amazing. Youl be suprised what they can do with those helicopters. Everyone go and see this show on the 11th and 12th of july and have a brilliant weekend. I KNOW I WILL !!!!”

“This years show will be more spectacular than the last. Granted the investment of money into this show maybe high but you have to think about the benefits of this event all you grumpy ones. The drive of tourism to the city on this weekend will be emense and many businesses will benifit hugely. This show will help put swansea on the map. I am so exited for this show this summer and will probably be the highlight of my holiday. The Red Arrows are known all around the world and to have them here for the second time is amazing, not to mention all the other aircraft that will appear this time round. I welcome the sound of jet fuel combusting in the rawing jet engines engines. it will send shivers down your spine. Bring it on :-)”

“Apparently they can fly EXTRA low over the houses of those whinging that they get woken up by a once in a year event! ;o)
I'm pretty sure that the armed forces budget is independent of local government finances so I dont see how gripes about poor local services should detract from people's enjoyment.”

“Well done Swansea City Council for hosting the air display this year. Maybe the RAF can show us their precision bombing skills by obliterating the grotesque and now redundant slip bridge abutments saving the Council some overdue demolition work.”

“Could be interesting! There's bound to be representatives there to answer questions, such as:
Army - What's like being a soldier?
RAF: What's it like flying a jet fighter?
Navy: What's it like on board a fighting ship?
Council: When are you going to repair our roads or fill holes in you dug weeks ago?”
