'Arizona is so beautiful ... there are mountains in the back garden and desert down the road!'
Entry one: Travels and First Impressions
I'VE spent a lot of time thinking about what I need to pack for my five- month trip to the USA.
-

After all, I will be in Arizona and dealing with two different climates whilst there — winter and summer.
After packing and repacking I'm ready to go with one suitcase, a rucksack and hand luggage.

The flight to New York was pretty uneventful, and I spent most of the time watching movies and wondering about what the next five months would hold, and the type of people I'm going to meet.
I'm not anxious but would say that I'm feeling more curious.
It's going to be so different living with a group of people whose culture is so different from my own.
I finally arrived at the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) base in Flagstaff. It's so beautiful here in Arizona.
There are mountains and trees in the back garden and desert a bit further down the road! Such a different landscape from home but equally lovely. I am missing being by the sea though.
I met some of my team mates tonight — Tina, Priscilla, Chelsea and Ashley. Tina is a Hopi Indian with beautiful eyes and lovely long dark hair.
She spent the first 10 or so years growing up on the reservation we will be visiting weekly.
Tomorrow Sarah, Mary, Ruth and Ina will arrive. Between us we are from the USA, Japan, Fiji, UK and Australia — a real mixed bunch!
The jet lag is getting to me though as I've been through three different time zones in 48 hours.
