It happened at the traffic lights at the entrance to Cwmdu Industrial Estate and involved Mr Slaughter's yellow Triumph motorbike and a blue Skoda Octavia.

A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and was later released on police bail.

Police have revealed they now want to talk to the drivers of two vehicles seen on CCTV footage at the time of the crash.

"Both vehicles were being driven along Carmarthen Road, from Cwmbwrla roundabout, passing the numerous vehicle retail outlets travelling in the general direction of Fforestfach," said a spokesman.

"Officers believe the drivers of these vehicles are potential witnesses and may have vital information.

One of the vehicles was a Land Rover Defender. It was described as being a short wheelbase truck cab model with an aluminium cargo cover.

The second was an Audi A4 convertible which was being driven with the roof down at the time.

"We are urging the drivers of both vehicles to come forward," added the spokesman.

Mr Slaughter was married to Karen and was the stepfather of three children.

He was described as a "very loving family man" who enjoyed sport and was a passionate Chelsea FC fan.

The drivers of the two vehicles, or anyone else with relevant information, are asked to call the South Wales Police serious collision investigation unit on 01792 562774. Alternatively they can call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
