Anger over road conditions after girl hurt in hole fall
A CIMLA father has blasted the state of the road outside his home after his daughter was left needing hospital treatment after falling off her bike.
Andrew Nay, 51, of Beacons View, lambasted the amount of potholes on the road after his daughter, Christine, 7, fell off her bike twice in the same day, severely bruising her knee.

Neath Port Talbot Council said it was aware of the problems on the road and that more repair work to fix the potholes is being considered.
"We have lived here for the past four years and the road has been the same ever since then," Mr Nay said.

"Christine fell off her bike twice in the same day after she hit the potholes and I had to take her to Neath Port Talbot Hospital to see if she was all right. She hadn't broken anything but she has severely bruised her bone and there may be some fluid on her knee because of it. At the moment, her knee is still very swollen."
In the last financial year (2011/12) Neath Port Talbot Council repaired 639 potholes across the county.
And earlier this year a report from the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AiA) said motorists were facing a pothole "pandemic" as local authorities across the UK deal with a £10 billion backlog in road repairs.
Mr Nay added the pothole problem was not just confined to the stretch outside his home.
"It is all the way along the road, from the garages at the top right the way down," Mr Nay said. "People are complaining about the state of the road all the time, it is terrible here.
"We just want them to get the road mended and sorted out as soon as possible."
A spokesman for Neath Port Talbot Council said: "Neighbourhood Services are aware of the pot hole issue at Beacons View and have been carrying out several repairs at this location. One section of the road has also been identified as in need of more extensive repair works and is being considered for resurfacing as part of our planned works programme."

“Compensation culture 1, common sense nil. She fell off twice?? twice, didnt she learn the first time?????? if I had a hole outside my house I would warn my children to play else where. When I was young on a bike we used to make huge ramps and jumps,,, this hole is only 3" deep at most.....ching ching i sense.”

The girl banged her knee so whether she was wearing a helmet or not is largely irrelevant to the fact that there was a pot hole in the road
@colinhud:any reason why he[the father] cant do a bit of repair work himself on the road?
I would imagine the council would take a dim view on that - and then there would be health and safety issues should a member of the public start applying hot tar/bitumen on one of their highways”

“Why do the EP never get the focus right? If you want to write an article about the poor state of the roads, then ask people how often they've reported it? What responses have they had? And how many vehicles owned by people who live there have had to have their vehicles repaired at their own cost after already reporting the problem? Has anyone approached the Council for a statement to see if the problem really has been reported?”

“ok ok yes he did know abot the pot hole and twice in one day but thank god the little is safe and didnt hurt herself as bad but some times it is down to the council as dont we pay a high price tax ere to get these things done are im i just the only one that pays tax as yes if it was me i would of stated to my little one ride away from it but some kids dont listen ere and think they can do it by there selfs but i dont think at this stage thou the council is gonna settle for compensation for twice in one day but get well soon to the little one”
