Anchors aweigh for crew
THE days of sail returned to Swansea with the 60-metre tall ship, the Stavros S Niarchos.
The brig was due to slip out of the docks today after a successful visit to the city this week.
A crew of 48 new sailors from across Britain, all aged between 16 and 25, assembled in the Swansea for the next leg of the ship's trip, which will take it to Portsmouth.
The craft, a square-rigged tall ship, is owned by the Tall Ships Trust, which gives people aged between 14 and 75 the chance to learn new skills and experience life on board.
Huw Francis, chairman of the Swansea branch of the trust, said: "The response to the visit has been fantastic.
"We have had lots of people on board to have a look around and find out more about what we do.
"The new crew members have been arriving in Swansea over the past few days, and have received training on subjects like safety and how to climb the masts before setting sail."
He added: "We hope the ship will return to Swansea next year."
