Anaesthetist took his own life following break-up
AN anaesthetist greatly distressed by the breakdown of a relationship took his own life, an inquest has heard.
Madhusudhana Honniah was found by a concerned colleague in his flat at the Copper Quarter, Swansea, on April 20, 2011.
Dr Honniah, who was 33, had injected a mix of two drugs whose lethal effect would have been known to him due to his profession.
The inquest heard that Dr Honniah, who was from India, had begun a relationship with Emma Righton in 2008 while working in the Liverpool area.

She then got a job in Australia, but they remained in touch and moved in together — in North Wales — on her return to the UK. In February 2010 they got engaged.
But the inquest heard that Dr Honniah had been wary of telling his parents about the relationship because of their "cultural beliefs". It was said that his parents would have wanted him to marry someone from his caste, or from the Bangalore area where he grew up. His parents, during a visit to Wales in 2010, learned of the relationship and said they weren't happy with it.
Dr Honniah suggested a Hindu wedding to his fiancee, but she did not agree to this, saying that a wedding date had already been set aside.
The couple then broke up in September 2010 — but met up on occasions when Dr Honniah moved to Swansea in January last year. From this point on, concerns were raised about Dr Honniah's state of mind.
The cause of death was given as atracurium injection.
Recording a verdict of suicide, Swansea coroner Philip Rogers, referring to an eight-page letter found in the deceased's flat, said: "I think it is clear that the breakdown of this relationship with Dr Righton must have caused Dr Honniah great distress and worry."
