Ammanford flying flag in Carruthers

AMMANFORD Park will fly the Llanelli and District Men's Bowls League flag in the third round of the Carruthers Shield after trouncing visiting Ystrad Mynach 85-54.

Park will have home green advantage when they face Haverfordwest on July 21.

Handing in the highest winning rink card against Ystrad were Park quartet Aled Howells, Ken Fowler, Dai Redmore and Nick Bithray, who won by 19 shots.

Premier division title hopefuls Kidwelly won 85-68 at Gorseinon and now lead the chasing pack on 103 points.

Kidwelly handed in a hat-trick of winning rink cards, the best of which was marked by Wayne Webster, Dai Naylor, Colin Jones and Dai Kingdon, who beat John Phillips's crew by 14 woods.

Even after their impressive 111-60 victory at Pontarddulais, Ammanford Town still precariously hover over the division one relegation zone.

Impressing most were Town quartet Mike Edwards, Matthew Harries, Alan Wilcox and Andy Hillier, who won by 20 shots on rink one.

Although losing their home division one clash against New Dock 79-68, Tybie remain in third. Mick Ovett, Ivor Carrod, Brian Madge and Bryan Rees, who were up 23-15 with three ends left, held off a late surge from Dock to eventually win 23-22.

Tumble enjoyed a narrow division two victory when leapfrogging visiting Dafen Welfare to win 71-70.25.

Although losing 24-17, skip Barry James proved to be the Tumble hero. With the other three rinks complete, Tumble were trailing overall by two shots as the action continued on the remaining rink on the green, but during the last end a spectacular first wood from James sealed the tightest of triumphs.

Llandeilo suffered a wounding division two blip and slid down the table from third after Llangennech beat them 92-64.

The Llandeilo face savers were Jamie Davies, John Park, Roy Kinnell and skip Geoff Chapman, whose solitary rink success earned their team-mates two vital points.

There was real frustration during Cwmamman's 84-70 home division two defeat to Calsonic.

On rink one, basement outfit Cwm were holding the head for a draw when a brutal Calsonic fire smashed into the pack, resulting in an eight-shot pick-up against exasperated skip Byron Davies.

Early season division three leaders Cross Hands suffered back-to-back losses within the space of three days.

On Thursday they lost 77-67 at Wheatsheaf, but on the plus side blooded new member Steve Jordan, who looks to be a sound addition for the Gwendraeth Valley outfit.

On Saturday, although Cross Hands got closer to their opponents, they could only claim four points from their 83-77 defeat at Llanelli Steel.

Tom Morgan, Keran Thomas, Terry Duquemin and Harry Phillips top-rinked for Cross with their 26-12 result.
