A jury of eight women and four men was sworn in for the trial at Swansea Crown Court but no evidence was heard.
Members of the jury were told Williams, 39, of Dan-y-coed, Tonmawr, Port Talbot is now known as Nadine after changing his name by deed poll. They were also told Williams is awaiting a sex-change operation.
The offences are said to have taken place in October 2011.
The jury will return at 11am today when the first evidence is expected to be heard.
