A MAN caught with cannabis in Tumble has been given a conditional discharge.

Jake Albert Hawkins, 20, of Singleton Road, Upper Tumble, admitted possession of the Class B drug at Carmarthen Magistrates' Court.

Ellie Morgans, prosecuting, said Hawkins was arrested on September 28 and given street bail to attend an interview.

Kate Williams, mitigating, said: "He knows he shouldn't have had it."

She added that her client was on licence for a previous offence, but said he was undertaking "basic skills training" as part of the licence supervision.

She added that the Probation Service was "not looking to recall him".

On issuing the 12-month conditional discharge, magistrates told Hawkins he should "set things right" in his life.

“I wonder how mankind can even rule whether a plant can be illegal or not?

Does one think that if god is ultimately responsible for all the herbs and plants on this planet and should he perhaps be given a care in the community order and be derided by the local village idiot as punishment for messing peoples heads up?”

“I agree with willywaun, they are incredibly dangerous and should be banned and made illegal straight away - just like many other dangerous things, such as driving and hard work.

I disagree however with neathboy and his "personal experiences", that cannabis turns people into "paranoid mental cases" as I doubt he has ever had a personal experience with cannabis yet he is still a paranoid mental case.

The only victim of this "crime" is the perpetrator himself. Pointless to even pursue crimes such as these and a complete waste of police/tax payers money and resources

“Neath boy get educated...as I have stated it is used for medicinal purposes around the world! Thank you to Kaiser for pointing out a very small problem with man made legal drug addictions. I don't smoke myself, but I am very positive for the change in law with cannabis.”

“vjenx24 we've all heard your argument before, and the fact is cannabis is still an illegal drug. I know from experience that your so called harmless drug turns people into paranoid mental cases. But at the end of the day if you want mind bending experiences then the best of luck to you, personally i'd never touch the stuff.”
