A GROUP of sheltered housing residents who have reluctantly waved goodbye to their warden are calling for her return.

NPT Homes, which runs Gwyn Court in Aberavon, has replaced the warden at the complex, which provides supported housing for older people.

John Murray, who is one of 12 residents there, said they had been left upset that their beloved warden Stacey Pelzer, who was on a temporary contract, was not given a full time post.

The 63-year-old said they have written a letter to NPT Homes asking for her return.

"It says the residents of Gwyn Court are disappointed, dismayed and upset that Mrs Pelzer was not given the full time job," he said. "Mrs Pelzer has done a very good job dealing with people with their problems and difficulties."

He said they were all distraught that she had left on Friday.

"She has been the warden for five months," he said. "She went for interviews but she didn't get the job. She is friendly and approachable and treats residents with respect."

NPT Homes chief executive Linda Whittaker said: "The individual involved was employed on a temporary basis by NPT Homes with her contract ending recently. An opportunity within the organisation has since arisen that the individual applied for and became successful.

"From yesterday Gwyn Court will have a new permanent Scheme Manager.

"NPT Homes are an equal opportunities employer and our selection processes ensure that the best person would always be selected.

"We are committed to providing the highest level of professional service to our tenants and therefore select staff through open and transparent recruitment who demonstrate they have the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver that service and are the best candidate for the job."
