ASHLEY Williams insists he is only interested in continuing his Swansea City journey after speculation linking him with a move to Germany.

The Wales centre-back was the subject of a reported bid from Steve McClaren's Wolfsburg on Friday, though Swansea denied there had been any contact from the Bundesliga club.

His performances have caught the eye since his switch to South Wales, but he insisted he is not about to cut his time at the Liberty Stadium short.

"I'm not bothered about it — I did German at school and I wasn't any good at it anyway," Williams joked.

"You only get linked if you are playing well, and I'm happy to be linked because it shows you're doing your job properly.

"I don't know whether there was any truth in it but I've not thought about it.

"I'm not going to be kicking down the manager's door asking what's happening.

"I'm on a great journey here. I'm enjoying the season and I'm not worrying about these other things — I answer your questions and forget about it afterwards."

Swansea will be keen to forget last Saturday as they made a shock exit from the FA Cup. League One side Leyton Orient dumped Swansea out after Alan Tate's late own goal condemned them to a 2-1 home defeat.

"There are a number of fingers to be pointed after this performance," added Williams.

"When you play against teams from lower leagues with less quality, you've got to be stronger, particularly at set-pieces. People make a lot of noise when they are not playing, and, to be honest, if they get a chance for whatever reason their performance doesn't say pick me.

"Cedric (van der Gun) had a chance in the last round and he performed well and started to feature more.

"He gave the gaffer something to think about, but maybe that's not quite happened for others.

"If we want to get to where we want to be then, as a squad, we need everyone pushing each other on."

“I wonder what he would have said if an offer had been made.”
