APOLOGY TO FMAILIES
A HEALTH boss has apologised to families where patient care has gone wrong at its hospital site.
Paul Roberts (pictured), chief executive of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, was speaking out following a report on Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.
The report, which went before the board's meeting in Baglan Energy Park, underlined the hospital reported higher death rates in some of its specialties and was subject to a number of critical Ombudsman and coroner reports.
But it also said the popular hospital provided excellent care for thousands of people.
During the meeting, Mr Roberts said: "Clearly the subject in this paper goes to the heart of what the board is about.
"There has been a fair amount of public attention on the issues raised at Princess of Wales in the past couple of month — the media interest has generated as much heat as it does light.
"I recognised when things go wrong with people's care in a hospital patients and their relatives suffer because of that.
"I would like to apologise on behalf of the board where it has taken place.
"It's creates fear and a lack of confidence among people who use the hospital."
He underlined a series of actions had been put in place in light of the concerns raised.
