AMs lend their support to staff as factory closes
MORE support has been offered to Remploy workers, who found out this week that they will lose their jobs when the Baglan factory closes.
The UK Government and Remploy announced this week that they have not identified a final preferred bidder for the furniture business, and as a result the plant at Baglan Energy Park will close.
A month's notice was given to the site's 54 disabled workers on Thursday.
Neath and Aberavon AMs Gwenda Thomas and David Rees, have now given their support to the workers.
Mrs Thomas said: "The loss of any job is terrible for the individual concerned. The fact that these workers are disabled will make it more difficult for them to find future employment."
Mr Rees added that the decision was hugely disappointing, saying: "This factory has provided a safe and supportive environment for disabled people to work in and the UK government's decision to cease funding for Remploy has now taken that away from them."
