SEVEN nurses with Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board are among the first to graduate with a degree in enhanced professional practice, a new course offered by Swansea University.

The degree is centered on work based education, enabling nurses to gain an academic qualification for the learning they do on the job.

Modules include learning to assess healthcare practice and how to make improvements to it, as well as how to teach others to do the same.

Paula Bidder, clinical nurse specialist for gynaecology at Singleton Hospital, said: "As a result of my new qualification, I have put into place a nurse-led discharge service. It has had such a positive impact it is used in gynaecology services across the health board."

“Fully agree, - Will all that make them bettermore caring, nurses? No, but they will be better at form filling and doing some of the doctors duties. My wife is a nurse with 25 years experience, and she fully agrees with me.”

“Yes, this is all very well but WILL patients still receive compassionate care??? This means treating patients with dignity, taking them to the toilet/commode, changing soiled bedlinen and actually talking to them to offer reassurance at their time of need...??? No..? I thought not.”
