The Osprey Sea Angling Club based in Pembroke Dock, meanwhile, held its annual open beach fishing competition on Sunday.

A total of 74 anglers, including four ladies and seven juniors — from north of Cardigan to east of Swansea — turned out to support the club.

Twenty anglers weighed in 18 flounder and 12 lesser-spotted dogfish.

The winner was the only lady to weigh in, Sally Owen, a women's shore international angler from Cardiff with three flounder for 1kg 220gms.

Second, as he had been in 2010, was Welsh international Chris Stephens from Bridgend, with the lesser-spotted dogfish weighing 1kg 185gms.

Third was Chris's father Jeff, with three flounder for 1kg 25gms. The top junior was local boy Alex Blunsden with a dogfish of 690gms.

The pairs competition was won by Chris and Jeff Stephens with a combined weight of 2kg 210gms, with another father and son combination — Kevin and Garwyn Shortman — second with a combined weight of 1kg 895gms.
