50 'at-risk' horses taken away
MORE than 50 at risk horses have now been removed from the Scurlage area of Gower as a major multi-agency operation continues.
The RSPCA has been working with equine charity Redwings, Swansea Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council to tackle the animal welfare issue there.
"The charity has been working with the owner of the horses for several months to maintain food supplies and access to veterinary treatment for the animals," said an RSPCA spokesman.
"However, after conditions recently deteriorated, the decision was taken to intervene and remove horses because of concerns for their welfare."
A total of 46 horses were removed at the end of last week, several of them foals."
Six other horses were also removed before that, and are all now in RSPCA-led care.
The operation has involved 16 RSPCA inspectors, 12 Redwings staff, eight trading standards officers, a vet and stable staff.
"As this is an ongoing investigation we cannot give any further information," said an RSPCA spokeswoman.
