Police are investigating the accident, and are urging any witnesses to come forward.

Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after 6.30pm. Fire crews from Carmarthen and Llanelli used cutting equipment to release the casualty. The fire service said the collision involved a motorcyclist, but police said it was a cyclist.

Wales Ambulance Service rushed the 20-year-old to hospital, and described the lorry driver as unhurt but shaken.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said: “At around 6.30pm on Friday September 3 a serious road traffic collision occurred at the A40 where a 20-year-old male cyclist from Carmarthenshire was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry.

“The ambulance service attended the scene and the casualty was taken to West Wales General Hospital where he later died of his injuries. Next of kin were present at the time.

“The collision is now being investigated by Carmarthenshire Roads Policing Unit, and any witnesses are asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police.”
