TWO thousand free tickets have been given out for a Jazz festival set up in just seven weeks.

Llandeilo Jazz Festival is presented by Evan Evans Brewery, and will see music played in streets and across pubs and bars throughout this weekend.

A full programme will include performances across three main venues — The Cawdor, The Angel and the White Horse — with a picnic also being held at Penlan Bandstand.

And visitors can even enjoy a special pint — after the brewing team worked overtime to create a new beer for the Welsh jazz season.

With the Llandeilo Jazz on the immediate horizon and Brecon Jazz at the beginning of August, the brewery decided to produce a new light summer ale for these major jazz festivals.

The new beer is light straw in colour and is brewed using the finest winter barley malts.

Brewed by James Buckley, 23, the seventh generation of the Buckley brewing family, the beer has been designed to be an easy-drinking ale.

James said: "This beer is a super new summer beer which we trailed some weeks ago. It received rave reviews.

"It is easy drinking, malty and a fun new beer which I am sure the jazz drinkers of Wales will love.

"This beer, great local food and wonderful jazz, what could be better for a July summer's day?"

The opening event, on Friday, July 6, includes music from seven-piece Mainstream Jazz, featuring guest Paul Munnery, at the White Horse Courtyard, from 7pm.

At 8pm, the Nik Turner Project will perform Jazz Rock at the Angel, followed by a six-piece blues and soul band, Whisky Business, at the Cawdor from 8.30pm.

On Saturday, an open mic session at the Angel will raise funds for Millenstock Charity, from 3pm-7pm, with further entertainment in the evening.

Organisers will be hoping for good weather on Sunday, July 8, as picnics are welcome at Penlan Bandstand with Presto Brass entertaining visitors.

Coming together in less than two months, part of the success of the marketing of the festival has been the unique branding created by Nick Pettit, of Nick Pettit Design, based in London.

Nick is the retained designer for the Evan-Evans Brewery and is one of the UK's top beer brand designers.

"There is little doubt that Nick's highly creative design has set the festival on the right road to success," said Simon Buckley, chief executive of the Evan- Evans Brewery, the festival's main sponsor and organiser.

"The design branding is eye-catching, it's colourful and next year we will add to it with Welsh variants."

Nick Pettit said: "I am delighted to be part of the evolution of this great new event.

"It has been a great opportunity, I am sure this event will grow into something special and add greatly to the local economy."

Mr Buckley added: "The online ticket facility has been red hot and we are all hugely encouraged by the response.

"Traders in Llandeilo should be cheered by the news as we hope to bring a lot of people to the town and there will be plenty of spin-off opportunities for local businesses."
