19,000 homes face tax benefit changes
THOUSANDS of households in Carmarthenshire will be affected by changes to the council tax benefit scheme.
From April 2013, the current system will be abolished and replaced with an all-Wales localised Council Tax Reduction scheme, with limited discretion for each local authority.
The move is being made by central Government in Westminster, which is cutting the level of funding it will be providing, meaning 19,000 homes across the county will either face future payments, or an increase in the partial payments they are currently charged.
To help set up a new system, Carmarthenshire Council is holding a consultation period to seek views of residents and other interested parties.
