100th birthday for history making Gowerton great grandmother
A HISTORY-MAKING great-grandmother has celebrated her 100th birthday with her family.
When Dessia Diment was born just after midnight on January 13, 1913, she became the first baby in Swansea to be entitled to the new maternity benefit introduced under Lloyd George's "people's budget" and the National Insurance Act.

She started working in domestic service aged just 14, and later went on to be a familiar face in Gowerton for more than six decades, being a stalwart of Temple United Reformed Church and a regular at Friday night bingo in the Conservative Club.
Her century was marked with a party — complete with cake and a card from the Queen — at home in Ashgrove House nursing home, Waunarlwydd.
