100 people attend meeting about Resolven library closure
WITH cuts being discussed in the council chamber, 100 people turned out in Resolven to a meeting about proposals to close the village library.
Held at St David's Hall in the centre of the village, residents heard from head of partnership and community, Russell Ward.
He told those attending that £17.3 million had to be cut from next year's budget, and that £240,000 of that had to be cut from the libraries allocation.
Mr Ward told villagers that he had to balance the budget, and that criteria put forward had seen Resolven put on the list for ceasing of funding from the council.
But villagers asked why libraries didn't come under the education budget.
"I have argued that point," said Mr Ward.
