1,800 caught without licence
MORE than 1,800 people were caught in Swansea watching TV without a licence in 2011, TV Licensing has said.
This compares to more than 2,200 in Cardiff, more than 600 in Bridgend, and more than 400 in Neath. Some 18,500 evaders were caught across Wales in 2011, and 1,000 every day in the UK.

“Practically every other country in Europe has a tv licence. Our money is spent on the BBC which produces programmes that are the envy of the world. Not something that can be said about the Dirty Diggers Sky, who keep on whining about the licence, despite surviving on broadcasting thousands of old BBC programmes to keep going.
If the BBC lost the licence money, they'd have to compete against the commercial stations for adverts and we know who'd win. ITV, Channels 4 & 5 would soon go down the pan.”

If you watch or record at the time of broadcast you need a licence. Mobile phone TV is covered by the company licence”

“handyman
Sorry you're breaking the law.
The TV licence allows television receivers to be installed and used at the licensed address and at other places as detailed in the licence confitions.
TV equipment means television receiving equipment,such as a TV set,computer(lap top),mobile phone,games console,digital box,or DVD/VHS recorder.
You do not need a licence if you only watch on demand services.
The licence costs £145.50,but you can pay by instalments
Better sign up quick!”

“The licence isn't for the programs but use of the 'aether' which even Sky use.
In Germany everyone with a TV, computer & mobile phone, I think, has to pay such a licence which is MUCH higher than ours, maybe only Switzerland's higher.”

“I don't have a TV licence because I don't have a TV, but I keep getting letters and visits. Must be spending a lot of money on checking me out every year. I don't even open the letters anymore just write return to sender on the envelope and post them.”

“I don't see why people paying for a TV package eg Sky or Virgin, should have to pay a TV licence anymore. What exactly are we paying for if terrestrial TV no longer exists?”
